Classical Ballet

Even if you are planning to focus on Hip Hop, jazz or tap, ballet training is essential to being a good dancer –It provides the technique you need to flourish in all other dance styles.

 Ballet will assist with :

*          The development of discipline and dedication. Ballet technique is very specific and requires practice to improve. In most cases, the qualities of discipline and dedication translate themselves to other areas of life like work and school.

*          Improving posture, balance and flexibility- Three large parts of ballet technique which, consequently diminish the likelihood of injury in ballet, sports, and other dance forms.

It helps you find your center of balance, gain strength and agility and move gracefully. Ballet is an essential part of being a good, all-around dancer.

We start Ballet Classes for students from aged 5, however we introduce our students to the basics of Ballet from Kindy Class.

Comdance Classical syllabus is taught as well as general ballet technique lessons and the very popular Ball Ballet class for adults.

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Diahann and Kerry are our Main Classical Ballet Teachers. They are both fully qualified Comdance Classical teachers and examiners.

Acrobatics

Acrobatic Classes are great for building strength and flexibility which benefits all other dance styles and gives students resilience and confidence plus a sense of pride when  they can achieve their goals.

Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements is required. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based on flexibility, contortion and strength.

We have 5 qualified Acrobatic Arts Teachers on staff who are continually upgrading their qualifications through this syllabus and workshops with industry professionals. Dancers who train through Acrobatic Arts have balanced development, are stronger, more flexible and fearless. It produces dancers with more skills, who have fewer accidents, and are less likely to develop chronic injuries.

We offer Acrobatics Classes for students aged from 6 years and divide the work over 2 lessons / week .

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Ally, Kitty, and Andrew are our main Acro teachers and have all completed their Acro Arts Teaching certifications. Andrew is also a Level 9 gymnast and is currently undertaking his Module 2 training with Acrobatic Arts. Kerry and Diahann are qualified Acrobatic Arts teachers as well as Pin Program Assessors for Acrobatic Arts and Comdance.

Tracey has trained in Sports Acrobatics under Diane Smith from Just Acrobatics, Sunshine Coast.

Musical Theatre

Musical theatre is becoming more popular with students wanting to be the “Triple Threat” and be confident in acting, singing and dancing.

For those wanting to take their craft seriously, when it comes to the audition process for professional shows, dance is the last section of an audition, so candidates must get through the acting and singing rounds before they get to show their dance talent. For this reason, Comdance have devised a syllabus that works to strengthen all aspects of Musical theatre including theory.

At SADC we offer fun Musical theatre classes that work on confidence and performance and for those wanting accreditation - exams are available.

Students have song and dance incorporated into lessons from Ready Set Dance upwards so everyone gets the opportunity to perform!

TEACHERS QUALIFICATIONS: Lauren holds her Full Diploma in Comdance Theatrical and Performing Arts, Diahann and Kerry both hold their Full Diploma in Theatrical dance and examine the Comdance Theatrical and Performing Arts syllabus globally. Tap

Tap dance is popular among the preschool set and Adult Classes…and everyone in between. Tap dance is not a traditionally “girly” dance form either. Many famous tappers today are men who make tap dance look decidedly masculine. Check out Savion Glover or the hit show “Tap Dogs”. Tap dance can be adapted for every fitness level and skill level.

Tap dance makes lots of noise! Whether you are 3 or 103, everyone loves to make a little noise now and then. Tap dancing can be a uniquely satisfying physical and emotional release because of its ability to produce sound. For children who are constantly being told to sit down and be quiet, being allowed to stand up and make noise can be particularly cathartic.

Tap dance makes you smarter. Tap dancing consists of learning rhythm patterns. Learning and memorizing patterns is a great workout for your brain. And it’s all math. Repeating, reversing and counting the rhythm patterns reinforces math concepts that younger students are learning in school. And for the adults and seniors… we all know that mental exercise promotes healthy brain activity and can help ward off disorders such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. So get tapping!

Tap dance is a great workout. Tap dance gets the heart rate up in a way that’s way more enjoyable than a jog around the block. It tones the major muscle groups in the legs and core and is a super fun way to stay in shape and get a great cardio workout.

Tap dance works the core for improved balance. One of the first things you should learn in any tap class is proper weight placement over the balls of the feet with soft knees and an engaged core. Training the muscle memory in this way improves balance, coordination and control. And the benefits of a strong core are numerous, including less back pain and risk of falling.

Tap dance is one of the only dance genres you are meant to hear. Learning to tap dance is basically learning to play an instrument. Rhythm patterns and clear sounds make this art form so intriguing to the ear.

We offer Tap classes to students from Ready Set Dance right through to our Adults Tap Class. For those wanting to do examinations in tap, we offer Comdance’s brand new Tap syllabus which includes choreography by Jack Chambers, Rennie Ann Martini, Keith Hawley and Chris Jordan - all very experienced, well-respected tappers & choreographers.

TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Diahann, Kerry, Lauren and Cassie all hold their full Tap Diplomas and teach both the Comdance syllabus as well as general tap classes
